Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009, the new SLS AMG elicited a fantastic response from the motoring press and Mercedes-Benz faithful alike. Very much a modern take on the iconic 300 SL of the 1950s, the car quickly proved to be a sales success. Shortly thereafter, Mercedes-Benz developed a racing version for the FIA’s GT3 class of racing that proved to be highly competitive on the track.

Looking to compete directly with the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera and the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the SLS AMG Black Series upped the ante in terms of performance. By shedding nearly 70 kilograms of weight and adding roughly 60 horsepower, top speed was increased to 315 km/h with a 0–100 km/h time of 3.6 seconds. This was accomplished through fitting modified camshafts, revised cam geometry, special racing-specification tappets, intake air ducting, and fitting a titanium exhaust system.

Customers could opt for a host of options, including numerous carbon-fibre accessories, and choose from nine standard colours. Furthermore, the SLS AMG Black Series’ navigation and infotainment system could be deleted to save a few extra pounds. Adding to the car’s visual ferocity and available downforce, an adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing, similar to the one fitted to the SLS AMG GT3, was also available.

This particular SLS AMG was delivered new in 2014 to its current owner thanks to a special relationship with Mercedes-Benz, and it has remained with him ever since. Finished in Solar Beam Yellow over a black interior, it was delivered new to France and regularly serviced by Mercedes-Benz of Lyon. It has travelled just 9,350 kilometres from new, and as a result, it remains in exceptional condition throughout. It is ready for further road use and would make a wonderful dual-purpose grand tourer or spirited Sunday driver.
